Frequently asked questions
How do I check my benefits application status?
Use the official state portal for your program (for example BenefitsCal, YourTexasBenefits, MyACCESS, myBenefits, or COMPASS). This page links you to the right one.
Can I check my status without an account?
It depends on the state; most portals require you to log in or verify your case number. If you cannot, call your local office or 2-1-1.
Is this a government website?
No. GlobalBenefits.org is an independent resource and is not a government agency.
If your application was denied
If you were denied benefits, you usually have the right to appeal and request a fair hearing — often within a limited number of days shown on your denial notice. Start with the guide for your program:
- How to appeal a SNAP denial
- How to appeal a Medicaid denial
- How to appeal a Section 8 (housing) denial
- How to appeal an unemployment denial
Act quickly — appeal deadlines are strict. Your denial notice explains how to request a hearing with the official state agency.
Check your application status
Most states let you check your benefits application status by signing in to your official state portal. Direct status links are currently available for selected states (California, Texas, Florida, New York, Pennsylvania) — use the Application Status Finder above. For any other state, choose Other State in the finder, or open your portal from the 50-state directory.
Upload documents
After you apply, your state may ask for proof of income, ID, or residency. Sign in to your official state portal (for example BenefitsCal, YourTexasBenefits, MyACCESS, myBenefits, or COMPASS) and use its document-upload feature. Find your portal in the state directory, and see the document checklist.
Renew your benefits
Benefits must be renewed (recertified) periodically. Watch for your renewal notice and renew through your official state portal before the deadline. Guides: how to renew Medicaid and SNAP recertification. Open your portal from the state directory.
Report a change
Report changes in income, household size, or address to your state agency promptly — often within 10 days — through your official state portal, so your benefits stay accurate. Find your portal in the state directory.
Find your local office
For in-person help, call 2-1-1 (free, 24/7) or find your local benefits and community office through 211.org.
