How the 2027 SNAP income limits will be set (and what to check now)
SNAP income limits are updated every federal fiscal year. The FY2027 limits take effect October 1, 2026, and are set at 130% (gross) and 100% (net) of the federal poverty guidelines, adjusted for the cost of living. USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) publishes the new figures in a cost-of-living-adjustment memo, usually in late summer before the fiscal year begins. What is changing for 2027 beyond the dollar amounts
Some SNAP rules have already changed under the 2025 federal law and carry into 2027 — most notably the expanded SNAP ABAWD work requirements (the age range rose to 18–64, with an 80-hour-a-month rule and a 3-month time limit). Review those now so a rule change does not interrupt your benefits.
