A state should screen every application and, when the federal expedited criteria are met, provide an opportunity to participate no later than seven calendar days after the application date.
Federal expedited screening categories
A household may qualify when its monthly gross income is under $150 and liquid resources are no more than $100; when combined monthly gross income and liquid resources are less than monthly rent or mortgage plus utilities; or when it is a qualifying destitute migrant or seasonal farmworker household. The state verifies which test applies.
File immediately and ask for screening
Submit the signed application as soon as possible. Clearly report current cash, bank funds, expected income, rent or mortgage, and utility responsibility.
